Branion Plaza, one of the most important public spaces on the University of Guelph campus, has recently been redesigned by our very own Maurice Nelischer!  This re-designed space shines for it aesthetics and function – and is helping to pull together members of the University community as a place to relax and meet and greet.  Maurice spent a number of years documenting the space and then showing the university administration the issues of the space to convince them of the potential he saw.  He also consulted with faculty and students to come up with a design that makes people feel at ease and at home. Maurice describes the space and his experience designing it as " Working on the heart of the campus to make it into a place for the university community to be proud of.  There are benches, a stage, water infiltration zones, grassy hills and of course the campus cannon.  All of this had to be done with a very limited budget and must remain viable for many years with little maintenance and upkeep."

After the acceptance and approval of Maurice's design the university hired JRS Landscape Architects to assist in the detailed implementation aspects of the the design and campus Physical Resources guided the project to completion

Maurice continues to teach design and construction courses in Landscape Architecture and is also the University Director For Sustainability.
