SEDRD Scholars Share Rural Research at National Geography Conference
Four members of the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development shared rural research at the recent 74th annual Canadian Association of Geographers national conference in St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. With a conference theme of Edges, students and faculty contributed research on rural health, rural economic development, northern veterinary service provision, and rural workforce development. Presentations shared at the conference included:
- Josh Barrett (PhD in Rural Studies candidate): Placed on the edge: Innovation transitions from path dependent rural economies in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Leith Deacon (Associate Professor): Rural Mental Health: The Need to Rural Proof Policy
- Sara Epp (Assistant Professor and Latornell Professor in Environmental Stewardship): Exploring the Crisis: Factors Affecting Large Animal Veterinary Services in Northern Ontario's Rural Regions
- Ryan Gibson (Associate Professor and Libro Professor of Regional Economic Development): Finding and Retaining Workers: Innovative Approaches to Addressing Labour Force Challenges in Rural Ontario
The presentations emerge from research supported through the Ontario Agri-Food Innovation Alliance and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
