Front line staff members are normally the first contact for clients and/or visitors. Learn how difficult situations can be dealt with effectively while maintaining a safe and secure environment. Participants will gain confidence and knowledge of safety and security within the work place.

Nature is known to be unpredictable and unexpected, so what awaits us today?  Rachel, the Arboretum's Naturalist Intern, leads 1 hour long walks every Wednesday year-round.  Walks start at The Arboretum kiosk at 12:15 p.m.   The hike may be cancelled if there is inclement weather.   Please check the Arboretum's Facebook and Instagram page for a notice if the weekly walk is cancelled due to weather.  For further information contact Sally at scheun06@uoguelph.ca or ext. 52363. 

All faculty and staff are invited to join a keynote session by Dr. Marta McCarthy called "Wellness for Musicians in Six Songs."  The 6 songs is a reference to Daniel Levitan’s book on the musical brain called The World in Six Songs.  Although this talk does concern primarily musicians, Marta's premise includes the idea that all humans possess a musical brain, which has contributed to civilization; the musical brain requires nourishment via a flexible and compassionate spirit.

Classical Yoga is a particularly effective and efficient system to not only stretch, tone and develop the muscles but stimulate robust health in all systems of the body.  Regular practice can relieve stress and anxiety and promote mental concentration.

According to the World Health Organization, unhealthy diet is one key contributor to the development of noncommunicable diseases. The global response to this problem has primarily involved the implementation of nutritional policies intended on raising public awareness, and providing information through nutritional guidelines and product labels. However, there is experimental evidence suggesting that certain foods may promote addictive processes and consequent unhealthy dietary choices.

Beyond the Books is a face to face session that will first provide participants with general information on the prevalence of mental challenges and illness. It will then help participants to identify signs of troubling behaviour and give them skills to engage in a preliminary discussion to determine if referral to a professional is necessary.
