PHD STUDENT PROFILE - Mariah Hudec

mariah hudecMariah Hudec earned her BA (Hons) in History from Cape Breton University in 2013, and an MSc by Research in Scottish History from the University of Edinburgh in 2014. She is currently a PhD student in the School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph, and serves as the Book Review Editor for the International Review of Scottish Studies and the PhD representative for the school. While Mariah maintains an interest in early modern history and literature, her current research focuses on connections between eighteenth and nineteenth century collections of Scottish superstitions and discourses of Romantic nationalism and the Scottish Enlightenment.

In her free time, Mariah cross country skis for both the University of Guelph Varsity Nordic Skiing team, as well as the Nova Scotia Provincial team. She holds a Sandan (third degree) black belt in Shotokan karate.
