The practicum is an opportunity to put in practice the conceptual tools acquired in the classroom. You can stay in Ontario or travel as far as France to complete your volunteer hours.
The practicum that I did at l'école secondaire Confédération in Welland was an extremely satisfying experience! I learned a lot about teaching French as a second language, and I met kind and helpful mentors. It was an excellent opportunity to work in an environment where I was in contact with francophone culture in Ontario. I would encourage you to participate in a practicum. You won't regret it! — Jordie Smits (MA 2007)
Ontario- Rhône-Alpes Program:
I was an intern at the Université Lumière Lyon II, France. During one week, I collaborated with the people in charge of foreign students from outside of Europe in the International Relationships Division. We organized an orientation for a group of Canadian students (from the Ontario-Rhône-Alpes program) who came to France to participate in an exchange for the winter semester.
Colline Fourvière, Lyon, France
With the help of a student from Lyon, I helped the Canadian students discover the city. We did a walking tour of the city, a guided visit of the traboules of vieux Lyon, a visit to the Roman amphitheater and the Basilica de Fouvière among others. We also took advantage of this "gastronomic" city by eating in a "bouchon lyonnais" (a restaurant dedicated to Lyonnais specialties). — Julia Scott
