This course covers the history of Latin America from the pre-Columbian period to age of independence in the early nineteenth century. Topics include pre-Columbian civilizations; the European conquest; the development of colonial societies and politics; the growth of slavery; eighteenth-century imperial reform, and the rise of independence movements.
