Performance and Conducting

With many opportunities to hone their skills in personalized and professional environments, University of Guelph students have successfully pursued further training in areas as diverse as opera and jazz to Christian popular music performance. Many of our students embrace the opportunity to form their own bands and ensembles while still at Guelph and gain invaluable professional experience mounting concerts in the highly supportive and musically engaged Guelph community at large.

Music Therapy and Community Outreach

The Bachelor of Arts (Music) at the University of Guelph is an ideal degree choice for someone wishing to pursue a future in the fast-growing and rewarding field of music therapy. The Guelph BA offers the quality of a rigorous Music degree, including the performance elements necessary to apply for Music Therapy programs while also posessing the flexibility needed to take the electives Music Therapy programs are looking for, particularly those in psychology. Upper-level customizable courses allow our students to gain clinical experience before they finish their bachelor degrees.

Teach Grade School or High School

University of Guelph students are particularly competitive when applying for teacher’s college with music as their primary teachable. The Bachelor of Arts (Music) from Guelph provides our students a high-quality Music degree AND the space to take credits necessary for additional teachables in a meaningful way. The Music Program at the University of Guelph prides itself on offering students training focused on musical traditions of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Our program is both comprehensive and diverse, centered on providing students the skills necessary to thrive as musicians and creative professionals.

Laurel Woodcock 1960- 2017

picture of laurel woodcockIt is with considerable sadness that the School of Fine Art and Music announces the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Professor Laurel Woodcock. A noted conceptual artist and highly respected educator, Laurel died on January 7, 2017 at Toronto General Hospital after receiving extraordinary care.
