French Studies at the University of Guelph offers a Masters in French Studies which reflects the areas of research of its professors. These areas of specialty fall into two broad categories: 

1. The language in its context (literary translation, socio-linguistics and French as a Second Language (FSL) pedagogy)

2. Politics and aesthetics of French literature (Québec, French, African and Caribbean literature, and intermediality)

Spend a year in the Rhône-Alpes region of France while getting university credits.

The Rhône-Alpes region is in the south-east of France, bordering Italy and Switzerland. The Ontario/Rhône-Alpes exchange coordinates exchanges between 15 Ontario universities and 15 Rhône-Alpes universities. Each year up to 50 Ontario students attend various universities in the area.

Curriculum and Credits

The Explore program is a 5-week intensive language course which takes place in a francophone environment. It is offered by many institutions in Ontario, Québec and other provinces. Candidates provide a list of regions/institutions where they would like to study. While they are usually placed in one of the institutions of their choice, this is not guaranteed.

For the 2025-26 academic year, bursaries of $3000 are available from the ACUFC for students wishing to begin a major in French Studies.
