During the July board of directors meeting of the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet), Dr. Ryan Gibson was re-elected president for a one-year term. CCEDNet is a member-driven, not for-profit, charitable organization made up of community-based organizations, co-operatives, social enterprises, practitioners, active citizens, researchers, and other organizations involved in community economic development.
SEDRD Faculty Dr. Helen Hambly Odame and Adjunct Faculty Dr. Ataharul Huq Chowdhury are pleased to announce the successful defense by Pawandeep Kaushik, a Masters of Science student from Wageningen University in The Netherlands. Pawandeep was a Visiting Scholar in the Capacity Development and Extension graduate program from Spring 2014.
Professor's Sean Kelly and Karen Landman attended the LAF Summit on Landscape Architecture and the Future in Philadelphia, June 10-11, 2016. The Summit marked the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Concern written by Ian McHarg and 5 other leading landscape architects in 1966, which brought attention to environmental crises and identified landscape architecture as critical to solving these crises.

Prof. Wayne Caldwell, with master of rural planning and development student, Bryce Sharpe, set out to examine the viability of Mennonite communities in southwestern Ontario. “This research project represents an interest in the diversity of agriculture,” notes Professor Caldwell. "There are special considerations for these communities in a planning context, and this research provides the potential to address these considerations.”

The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) Prize was presented to Bachelor of Landscape Architecture graduate, Michelle Peeters and to Master of Landscape Architecture graduate, Laura Williams, by CSLA past-president and Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph, Cecelia Paine, FCSLA, OALA, FASLA.
