2021 Virtual Yoga Speaker Series - Barbara Quinlan

U of G Yoga and Meditation Collective is delighted to host  the Online 2021 Yoga Speaker Series that brings long term/lifelong practitioners, teachers, and academic researchers together in a compelling conversation with a diverse audience – student, staff, faculty, alumni, yoga practitioners and researchers. The series is about learning together. Learning how to use the teachings of these powerful speakers for your own reflection, contemplation and practice, truly taking Yoga off the mat and into your life.

U of G Women, Work and Wellness What are your challenges to living and working well? Join us online for this trio of discussions to reflect on the unusual circumstances that we have been faced with over the past year and the ongoing uncertainty about the future. In April we will consider the Groundhog Day Effect. The repetitiveness of day to day living with limited options and connections to the broader world.

Mood Moves

The Wellness Education Centre is hosting virtual Mood Moves every Wednesday for students and employees. Join us for a quick stretching and movement session at your own comfort level! Our group will meet online for a quick check in, followed by about 10 minutes of stretching and light activity! This group aims to support your mental and physical health by providing you with an opportunity to take a step back from your responsibilities and stresses, while helping add some activity into your day.

Wellness Friday: Forgiveness: Letting Go and Moving Forward

It can be difficult, or near impossible, to forgive someone who has hurt or wronged us. Holding on to these resentments can have negative effects on our health, our well-being, and our ability to experience joy and happiness. This session will explore what it means to forgive, how to move from a place of anger to a place of peace, and how this process can free us from our past hurts. Facilitator: Homewood Health

Please join with your family and friends.  Dr. Hansa Yogendra (born 1947) is an Indian yoga guru, author, researcher, counsellor, and TV personality (Yoga for Better Living). She is the Director of The Yoga Institute, Mumbai, the oldest organized yoga center in the world founded in 1918.

COVID-19: What's New with Dr. Andrew Papadopoulos

Join Dr. Andrew Papadopoulos for a third discussion on the current COVID-19 pandemic.  This brief talk will be followed by Q & A. Please submit any questions you have when you register. About the Facilitator: Andy is a professor in the Department of Population Medicine and the coordinator of the Master of Public Health Program.  His research focuses on environmental public health issues and public health policy.

Earth Day Lunch and Learn with Bird Safe Guelph

The sounds of birds chirping means spring is here!  But did you know every year in Canada, an estimated 25 million birds fatally collide with windows. Birds cannot see glass, and reflections of trees or sky in glass can confuse birds and make them think they can fly through the glass. Colliding with a window may kill a bird on impact or may stun the bird and leave them vulnerable to predators.

Relaxation & Stress Management Skills

This program is offered by Kathy Somers from the Stress Management & High Performance Clinic. This group program meets twice a week for 6 weeks (12 sessions in total) to maximize the opportunity to practice and develop strong skills in releasing body tension, and calming and focusing the mind. This educational program emphasizes skill acquisition and education about stress management and high performance. This is not a self-disclosure or therapy group; the purpose is skills practice.

Scientific studies have shown that 50% of our individual differences in happiness1 are determined by our genes, 10% by our life circumstances, and 40% by our intentional activities.
