Healthy Workplace Month Calendar- October 2019

Through the Wellness@Work initiative we are proud to be hosting our third annual Healthy Workplace Month at the University of Guelph. The Wellness@Work Programming Committee invites you to take part in some of the fun, free activities to help boost workplace wellness across our institution.

Here are a few featured events:

U of G Art & Objects Scavenger Hunt Activity

Is it art or a historic object?  The scavenger hunt is made up of pictures of Art or Objects on the U of G campus for you to find. Once you have found the item in the picture, enter its name in the crossword puzzle.

When you have completed the crossword puzzle, submit it to wellnessatwork@uoguelph.ca or send by campus mail to Sarah Joosse in Human Resources by November 4, 2019.

There will be prizes awarded by random draw from the correct entries.

Get out there and explore our beautiful campus this October!

September 2019 Wellness@Work Calendar

Hope you have been enjoying the summer and are looking forward to an exciting Fall!  Attached below is the full September Wellness@Work calendar and the Take a Hike! Challenge poster.

Wellness@Work is challenging you to try at least one new hike each week during the month of September for your chance to win a prize!

Here are a few upcoming opportunities to help you find balance during a busy start to the school year :

Suicide Prevention: Uncovering the Signs

September 10 each year is recognized as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Day.

"Explosive - that’s the impact the suicide of a colleague will have within his or her personal network of family, friends, colleagues and co-workers. With 70% of suicides being completed by working-aged men and women between 30 and 64 years old, the collateral damage of such tragic deaths does indeed reach the workplace."

University of Guelph's Top 20 Bucket List for Employees

The University of Guelph has many unique features and activities for employees to enjoy.  We have compiled many of these features into a Top 20 Bucket List.

Work your way through with a colleague or on your own, and have fun appreciating our campus.

ON TOUR @ U of G Sustainability Series Highlights

Throughout the month of August, Wellness@Work invited employees to explore unique places on campus to learn more about how we are working together to create a more sustainable U of G.

Staff and faculty were invited to tour the UC Basement Kitchen, the Honey Bee Research Centre, and the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming.  A talk was also hosted by the Sustainability Office, highlighting the different programs U of G runs to create a more sustainable campus.

2019 Wellness@Work Recipe Booklet

During Nutrition Month, we asked employees to submit their favourite healthy recipe for a chance to win a prize.  View the top 3 recipes our panel selected, as well as all of the yummy recipes we received for the contest in the attached recipe booklet.

Try out a new breakfast, entree or dessert recipe and let us know what you think! Use the hashtag #WellnessatUofG.

Happy tasting!

Winners of the Spring Snaps Challenge

Throughout the month of June, Wellness@Work encouraged employees to snap a photo of a beautiful flower, garden or a unique tree at U of G and enter their photo for a chance to win a prize. Thank you to everyone who submitted their beautiful Spring photos for the Spring Snaps photo challenge.

45 photos were submitted and reviewed by the Grounds team in Physical Resources to determine the top 3 photos.

The prize winners were each awarded a beautiful flower pot arrangement provided by the Department of Plant Agriculture (see the above photo).

Mental Health and Workplace Culture in Population Medicine

The Department of Population Medicine in OVC received a Wellness@Work grant in 2018 to provide a space with activities that encourage Population Medicine team members to see the department holistically. The program included a variety of activities to support physical, mental and social health and wellbeing.

Wellness@Work Goes Behind-the-Scenes at the UC Kitchen

University of Guelph Hospitality Services has long been recognized as a Canadian leader for sustainability initiatives within the food service and retail operations.  For 10 years in a row, Maclean’s Magazine has voted U of G the #1 Food Service University in Canada.

Wellness@Work wanted to give employees a chance to go behind-the-scenes of the extensive food operation in the University Centre, to learn more about how the food we eat gets stored, prepared and delivered on campus.
