Details provided by instructor: Weekly Course Format: 1 * 50-min. lecture, 1 * 50-min. media lab, and 1 * 50-min. seminar. 

Course Synopsis:  

This course is designed to acquaint students with the development of historical writing, the interpretive problems surrounding the study of history, and the methods employed by historians.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, you will:

  1. appreciate the origins and development of the historical discipline from the Greek period, with particular reference to historiography from 1800;
  2. understand advanced principles and engage in thoughtful practices of historical research and writing;
  3. think critically and creatively about both primary and secondary historical sources, and incorporate them effectively in historical research and writing; and
  4. undertake, with confidence and skill, hands-on activities related to historical research and writing.

Methods of Evaluation and Weights:

  1. Primary Source Assignment 1 - 20%
  2. Primary Source Assignment 2 - 30%
  3. Online Scheduled Individual Check-in - 5%
  4. Seminar Participation - 15%
  5. Final Take-Home Examination - 30%
