New Professor Emerita - Dr. Elizabeth Ewen

Dr. Elizabeth Ewan has made exceptional contributions to the University of Guelph as an esteemed scholar in Scottish social and gender history. She joined as an Assistant Professor in 1986, achieved tenure in 1989, became an Associate Professor in 1991, and attained the rank of Professor in 2003. From 2006 to 2017, she held the prestigious position of University Research Chair in History and Scottish Studies.

Throughout her career, Dr. Ewan secured significant research grants, including seven from SSHRC totaling $205,276, and additional funding support of £89,650 from the Scottish government and Scottish universities. Her publications encompass nine edited or co-edited books, a co-authored monograph, the influential Townlife in Fourteenth-century Scotland, and numerous articles.

Beyond her publications, Dr. Ewan has made substantial contributions to the field. She has presented at scholarly conferences, engaged with the public through media interviews, and played a pivotal role in establishing the WISH portal for Women in Scottish History. She has also served on the editorial boards of esteemed publications such as the Journal of British Studies, International Review of Scottish Studies, among others.
