Prud'homme Beer Certification - Level 1 Beer Enthusiast

This introductory course in beer education is designed for participants interested in furthering their knowledge and interest in beer. The focus will be on brewing ingredients and processes, tasting concepts, pouring and serving concepts (including an introduction to draught systems) and food and beer pairings. The course starts on October 14th and will run for 4 weeks on Sunday's. The deadline to apply is September 26th.

Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 Award in Spirits

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 Award in Spirits will introduce you to the basic principles of spirit production and the main types and styles of spirits available.   You will also learn how to serve spirits and understand the factors affecting the flavour of spirits. The course is on Sunday, September 30 from 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Beer Seminar: An Intro to Sour, Tart and Funky Beer

Why is my beer sour?  In this seminar, we discuss beer fermented and soured with wild yeast and bacteria.  Common strains of microbes used to produce these beers, as well as modern. Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits

The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits will teach you about the key grape varieties grown around the world, tasting techniques, the different styles of wine produced and the production of spirits and liqueurs. The course is on every Monday from September 24 to November 26 (9 weeks) from 7:00pm to 9:30pm.

The Flavours of Canada

U of G alumni are invited to the Flavours of Canada celebration at the iconic James Beard House on Wednesday, May 16th. Hosted by U of G’s Food Laureate, Anita Stewart, the Flavours of Canada Celebration honours the Good Food Innovation award-winning Canadian chefs, who have been selected by a national panel of Judges at Food Day Canada. "A Feast On® event presented in partnership with Ocean Wise® and the University of Guelph School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.  FISHSTOCK is a unique, one day workshop for members of the foodservice industry who want to learn how to successfully incorporate Ontario lake fish into their businesses. The event takes place on Monday, May 14th. The workshop is from 9:30am - 4:30pm, and includes hands-on workshop, sustainable seafood, lunch, panel discussions and tour of the ALMA Research Station.

Spotlight on Graduate Research in Tourism and Hospitality

The School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management (HFTM) at University of Guelph is hosting Spotlight on Graduate Research in Tourism and Hospitality on Saturday, April 7, 2018. This event offers opportunities for students to explore the current graduate students’ research, to learn about the various graduate programs in tourism and hospitality, and to connect with graduate students and professors to discover the benefits of an advanced degree in tourism and hospitality.

Registration deadline: Cider in Ontario Seminar

Ontario is home to ideal apple growing conditions, no surprise cider production followed. We are fortunate to have some very talented cider makers in our midst, former University of Guelph student Tariq Ahmed of Revel Cider Co will join us to explain his journey in opening a cidery in Ontario. We will cover cider production, apple varieties, as well as legislation around cider production. This offering of the Cider in Ontario Seminar will take place Sunday, March 25, 2018.
