New chefs’ forum discusses future of Canadian food; Celebrated chefs and restaurateurs make up expert panel

The University of Guelph is preparing to welcome some of Canada’s most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs to campus on September 29 to discuss future of Canadian food.

The Food Day Canada Chefs’ Forum, hosted in partnership with the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) and the College of Business and Economics, will unite this elite group of experts, who are also recipients of the University’s Good Food Innovation Award.

'Help Drew Breathe Concert'

The 'Help Drew Breathe Concert' is taking place tonight in the University Centre Room 103 at 8:00 p.m. A harp concert featuring Hanna Barlow will help raise funds for our student Drew Cumpson, who experienced a spinal cord injury and became paralyzed while volunteering in Peru. Admission is by donation. Hope you are able to show your support.

New Competition for Hospitality Students - GenYP Challenge

GenYP is a new competition for hospitality students. Similar to the Young Hoteliers Summit (YHS), the event will take place annually in conjunction with HFTP’s (Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals) Annual Conference. This year the conference is being held in New Orleans’ French Quarter from October 22nd - 25th.

Tipping Expert on CBC Radio

Professor Bruce McAdams discussed tipping on CBC Radio's alberta@noon. During his interview he took calls from listeners and discussed the issues people encounter when tipping at various dining establishments. (The interview begins at 21:23).

Interviewed by CTV News, Statia Elliot comments on the recently released list of the world's friendliest cities.  While Auckland, NZ and Melbourne, AU are in first and second place, Victoria, BC takes third, and Charleston, SC fourth, with Sydney, AU and Dublin, IE tying for fifth place.

Professors von Massow and McAdams Tipping Research in the Globe & Mail

Getting rid of tipping may help improve restaurant culture. The School's tipping experts, Mike von Massow and Bruce McAdams, talk about results of their recent study that interviewed approximately 100 managers and servers on the topic. What they found was that tipping causes a number of challenges ranging from controlling the quality of service to rivalry among staff.
