Getting rid of tipping may help improve restaurant culture. The School's tipping experts, Mike von Massow and Bruce McAdams, talk about results of their recent study that interviewed approximately 100 managers and servers on the topic. What they found was that tipping causes a number of challenges ranging from controlling the quality of service to rivalry among staff.
Following an extensive international search, I am delighted to announce that Dr. Statia Elliot has been named Director of the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, effective August 1st, 2014.

A University of Guelph Honorary Doctorate was presented to Charles Grieco during convocation on Tuesday, June 10th at the 9:00 a.m. ceremony.
Professor Marion Joppe was interviewed by CBC news on the status of Chinese tourism in the Windsor-Essex region of Ontario. According to Joppe, in order to attract more visitors from China, the area should expand its attractions to include large shopping centres primarily found around major cities.
