The School Has A New Name!

 

The School of Hospitality & Tourism Management has officially been renamed to the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.   The new name brings 'food' back into the title and better reflects the wider 'food' interests in the School beyond restaurants and other food services.  The College has also been renamed to the College of Business and Economics.

The Bill Braithwaite MBA Distinguished Professorial Award

MBA students have established a new award to recognize teaching excellence. The Bill Braithwaite MBA Distinguished Professorial Award is the first granted by CME students to an instructor teaching in the MBA program. The award will honour one of our most dedicated MBA Faculty and Advisor, Bill Braithwaite.  

HTM Job Expo and HAFA/HTM Alumni Career Night

This year the School welcomed 29 hospitality & tourism employers to the 15th Annual Job Expo held in Peter Clark Hall with students seeking either summer, part or full-time positions. 

The HAFA/HTM Alumni Career Networking Night engaged approximately 200 students in round table discussions with approximately 50 alumni.

HAFA/HTM Alumni Association Golf Tournament

Join alumni and friends at the annual golf tournament on Friday, May 30th, 2014.  This year it will be held at the Richmond Hill Golf Club at 8755 Bathurst Street in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Continental Breakfast is served at 7:45 am with tee-off (shotgun start) at 8:30 am.  The earlybird fee is $150 per golfer before 4 p.m. on April 19th, $165 after April 19th. Golf only is $120 and lunch only is $30. Registration opens February 20, 2014.

Three Students Chosen to Represent Guelph at the YHS in Switzerland

YHS chosen to represent U of G, with Professor Joe BarthProf. Justin Taillon's HTM*1000 course served as the backdrop for this year's Young Hotelier Summit (YHS) contestant presentations on January 14th. Six HTMers presented topics ranging from the changing role of generation Y to social media in modern hotel organizations.

This year's YHS presentations will be occurring this afternoon from 2:30pm-4pm in MCLN Room 102.  All HTM professors and students are welcome to attend!

Attendance will be especially beneficial to any students interested in being a part of YHS in future years. Here is a basic rundown of what YHS entails and what to expect:

1. Young Hotelier Summit is a competition in Lausanne, Switzerland for fourth-year hotel-focused students at the world's most-established hospitality universities.
