Award Winners

The Gaskin Medal in Marine and Freshwater Biology is awarded to the student who graduates with the highest cumulative average in the Department of Integrative Biology's Marine and Freshwater Biology Major, this year's recipient is Sarah Kinoshita. 

This award was established to honour Dr. David Gaskin, professor in the former Department of Zoology from 1968 - 1998, for his contribution to this field.

The Ronald Ko Scholarship represents income generated by a trust fund established by Dr. Ko. One annual award is presented in the Winter semester. Application is not required.

Natural Resource Solutions Inc. established the Natural Resource Solution Scholarship in Laboratory & Field Work in Ecology to acknowledge students demonstrating academic excellence in the area of field work in ecology. This scholarship is presented to the student with the highest grade in BIOL*3010. This year's recipient is Catherine Rutherford.

The Hagen Graduate Scholarship is given to a student with an interest in tropical and/or marine fish or aquaculture, who is registered in CBS and studying aquatic biodiversity with at least a first class (A-) average. This year's winner is MSc student Elisa Lau from the Ballantyne Lab.

Thesis: Hydroxyurea synthesis in the White-Spotted Bamboo Shark

The Bryant Family Research Scholarship is awarded to the two students with the best final written reports in IBIO*4500 Research in Integrative Biology. This year's award winner is Brooklyn Rushton.

Project title: Polyploidy as an advantage to drought and nutrient stress in Arabidopsis thaliana.

The Tony Anthony Prize in Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy was established in memory of the late E.H. Anthony, Professor in the former Department of Zoology, One award will be made for each semester in which the course is offered. Application is not required.

The Bryant Family Thesis Research Scholarship is awarded to the student with the best final written report in IBIO*4522 Thesis in Integrative Biology. This year's recipient is Samantha Ramirez.

Project title: Ontario Crop Productivity: Variation in yield with varying land suitability for agriculture.

Advisor: Prof. A. MacDougall
