Interim Associate Dean (External Relations) Announced

The Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Karen Landman as Interim Associate Dean (External Relations) for a one-year term starting May 1, 2017.

The Associate Dean (External Relations) is responsible for issues relating to alumni and development activities, communications, outreach, endowments and student awards. The Associate Dean (External Relations) is also a key member of the OAC senior leadership team.

"Karen is known for her community-building expertise, her collaborative nature and her genuine interest in people,” shares Rene Van Acker, Dean of OAC. “She is an excellent fit for this role and I’m looking forward to working with her.”

Landman is a professor in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD).

“Outreach is an activity that I have always enjoyed,” shares Landman, “as I see real benefits for both the greater community and our students. I sincerely look forward to serving OAC in this position.”

Landman has served as an Associate Director for SEDRD since 2013. In her research with graduate students she specializes in projects entailing community consultation and outreach.

She is a professional member of the Canadian Association of Food Studies, the Canadian Institute of Planners, Ontario Professional Planners Institute, the International Association of Landscape Ecologists and the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.

Landman joined the University of Guelph in 2002 after completing her Ph.D. in geography at Queens University. She received her diploma, bachelor’s degree and master’s degree all from the University of Guelph. A video with more information on Landman and her research is available here.
