Tractor Tug for Tots Raises Over $6,000
The "Tractor Tug for Tots" Club of the Student Federation of OAC (SFOAC) once again held their annual “Tractor Tug for Tots” event on Wednesday, November 21. The event hosted 26 teams of eight, from across the University of Guelph, who competed by tugging two 13,000 lbs tractors 50 feet in head to head races. The event raised a fantastic $6,000 for the children’s charity Right to Play.
The '2013 Ag Bus Elite' team came out victorious with the fastest pull – clocking in at 6.2 mph at one point! The 'Environmental Sciences' team took home the Best Dressed Award and the 'Poultry Club' was the top fundraising team.
Right to Play uses sport and play to educate and empower children and youth to overcome the effects of poverty, conflict, and disease in disadvantaged communities. As the charity representative, Julia Meyer, explains, “Every $50 donation to Right to Play provides educational activities for one underprivileged child for an entire year.” SFOAC hopes to raise $10,000 for the charity by the end of the year; a donation which would provide activities to 200 children. If you are interested in donating to Right to Play, please contact Emma, Tractor Tug for Tots Co-Chair or visit www.aggies.ca
A special thank you to the many local businesses for donations to make the event a success. Tractors were donated for the day by Elmira Farm Service and Stoltz’s Sales and Service.
