MLA Student Presented Paper at GIS Education and Research Conference

MLA student Adele Pierre presented a paper at the GIS Education & Research Conference hosted by ESRI Canada at Hart House, University of Toronto on November 30, 2015. The practice of Landscape Architecture is being transformed through the use of technology, and students are in a unique position to experiment with new software programs, particularly those integrating GIS data with 3D modelling.

2015 Andre Schwabenbauer Awards Presented to Landscape Architecture Students

On November 9, 2015, faculty and students gathered at the University of Guelph to present this year’s Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation (LACF) Andre Schwabenbauer Scholarship Awards.   Congratulations to landscape architecture students Emily French from the MLA program and Michelle Peeters from the BLA program who were the 2015 recipients.

MLA student, Aislin Livingstone Awarded the 2015 Peter Klynstra Memorial Scholarship

Aislin Livingstone was recently awarded the 2015 Peter Klynstra Memorial Scholarship.  Aislin is a second-year Master of Landscape Architecture student in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph.  The award recognizes Aislin’s ties to Atlantic Canada and her passion for the profession, which she has demonstrated in her academic work, employment and volunteer activities.

MLA Alumnus is Helping Transform the Lucy Maud Montgomery Gardens

The Lucy Maud Montgomery Children’s Garden of the Senses will offer a new way to explore nature and literature in Halton Hills when it opens this spring 2016.  The Children’s Garden of the Senses uses plants and other elements with distinct sensory qualities to stimulate children’s senses of smell, sight, hearing, taste and touch.

Eileen Foley, a Master of Landscape Architecture alumnus is the project manager and landscape architect who is helping to transform the Lucy Maud Montgomery Garden in Norval Park to appeal to younger people.

MLA Student Publishes Adult Colouring Book

First year Master of Landscape Architecture student, Daniel Rotsztain publishes adult colouring book titled "All the Libraries Toronto". 

All the Libraries Toronto is an adult colouring book featuring illustrations and descriptions of all 100 branches of the Toronto Public Library (and two bookmobiles), recently published by Dundurn Press. 

Hailey Eldershaw, BLA Students Takes 2nd Place in Transition to Less Waste Eco-Home Design Competition

Oxford County based non-profit Transition to Less Waste (TTLW) announced the top entrants for the Eco-Home Design Competition, hosted this past summer with the support of the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).

Congratulations to Hailey Eldershaw, a third-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture who tied for second place in the competition with her eco-tourism lodge design.  See Ingersoll Times for full article.

SEDRD Students Participate in Global Challenges Summer School

In 2014, Dr. Karen Landman was invited by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) to work with Landscape Architecture professors from around the world to create a Global Challenges University Alliance graduate summer school, which would be focused on issues related to sustainable development and climate change.

Cornelia Hahn Oberlander to Receive Honorary Doctorate

Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, one of Canada's distinguished landscape architects, was one of the first women to study at Harvard University's design school and became a leader in sustainable design will receive an honorary doctorate during the fall convocation ceremonies at the University of Guelph on October 17, 2015 at 2:00 pm at War Memorial Hall.
