WEBINAR: Stereotype Threat: Effects on Women in Leadership

Dr. Megan Walsh and Dr. Erica Carleton, two University of Saskatchewan researchers, are joining MindWell Founder and Chief Training Officer, Dr. Geoff Soloway to discuss how they are using mindfulness training to help women overcome stereotype threat, a major barrier that hinders them from joining and performing well in top leadership positions in organizations. Exploring Turtle Island's Untold Truths-KAIROS Blanket Exercise

The Blanket Exercise engages on an intellectual and emotional level to foster truth, understanding, respect and reconciliation through a participatory education methodology. The goal is to build understanding about our shared histories as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples on Turtle Island by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and Indigenous resistance.

Free Rec Skating for Night Shift

Rec Skating is open for skaters of all ability levels. Lace up and skate along to some great music!   Rec Skates are NOT available to rent at the rink, so please bring your own. - Must provide your own skates - Wearing a CSA approved helmet is strongly encouraged Athletics is opening the rink up for free to all night shift employees. Note: This event is being hosted the evening of Wednesday March 11th/early morning of Thursday March 12th at 12:30am.

Walking Track Thursdays

There are many benefits to moving your body at work!  For three Thursdays in March, Athletics is opening up the walking track to all employees for free. No membership required!  All participants must check-in with Client Services and sign an electronic waiver to access the walking track.   Please bring your clean, indoor walking / running shoes only.    Please adhere to the posted walking track guidelines. Stop by anytime on March 5, 12 and 19 to enjoy a walk on your lunch break or bring a colleague for a walking meeting.

Safety and Security for Front Line Staff

Front line staff members are normally the first contact for clients and/or visitors. Learn how difficult situations can be dealt with effectively while maintaining a safe and secure environment. Participants will gain confidence and knowledge of safety and security within the work place.

Wednesday Walks at the Arboretum

Nature is known to be unpredictable and unexpected, so what awaits us today?  Rachel, the Arboretum's Naturalist Intern, leads 1 hour long walks every Wednesday year-round.  Walks start at The Arboretum kiosk at 12:15 p.m.   The hike may be cancelled if there is inclement weather.   Please check the Arboretum's Facebook and Instagram page for a notice if the weekly walk is cancelled due to weather.  For further information contact Sally at scheun06@uoguelph.ca or ext. 52363. 

Wellness for Musicians in Six Songs: Music Symposium Keynote

All faculty and staff are invited to join a keynote session by Dr. Marta McCarthy called "Wellness for Musicians in Six Songs."  The 6 songs is a reference to Daniel Levitan’s book on the musical brain called The World in Six Songs.  Although this talk does concern primarily musicians, Marta's premise includes the idea that all humans possess a musical brain, which has contributed to civilization; the musical brain requires nourishment via a flexible and compassionate spirit.
