Eating to Support Mental Well-being

It’s long been acknowledged that the foods we eat influence our physical health. As we learn more about mental well-being, we’re learning that our food habits can also have a significant influence on our mental well-being. Many of us can relate to the physical symptoms that often accompany stress and anxiety – it’s common to experience an upset stomach or change in bowel habits. If our mental well-being can impact the function of our gut, it makes sense then that what we put into our gut can impact our mental well-being.

Survey Update: Taking a Positive Focus Forward

In October 2017, the University launched the Wellness@Work Survey, to identify and better understand factors within the workplace that affect the psychological health and safety of University of Guelph faculty and staff. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the Wellness@Work Survey.

Leave for Change Participants Announced

Congratulations to the four members of the University of Guelph community who have been selected to participate in Leave for Change in 2018.

Leave for change provides an opportunity for U of G staff and faculty to demonstrate their commitment to global citizenship and international development by contributing their skills and knowledge during short-term volunteer assignments with organizations in developing countries.

Weekly Market on Campus

Have you visited the market yet at the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming (GCUOF)? Right on campus you can check out fresh seasonal produce to take home with you. 

Get delicious certified organic produce from the GCUOF at the weekly markets hosted each Thursday from 3 - 6 p.m.

The GCUOF is located off College Ave E. on campus. Free parking in P18 at College Ave E and Dundas Lane.

Wellness@Work is launching a summer walking series, exploring U of G’s beautiful gardens. Join us every Tuesday until the end of August for a guided walk through the picturesque gardens and landscapes on campus.

John Reinhart, Grounds Manager, will take participants on a noon hour walk to explore different gardens and trees on our campus.  Each week will feature a different area of campus with more to discover.  Come learn about new plantings, plant problems, botany, history of plantings and more!

The 10-5 Way: A Happiness Hack

It's no secret that happiness is contagious.  At work, taking time to acknowledge others and share a friendly smile or greeting can go a long way. 

In Shawn Anchor's book, "Before Happiness: The 5 hidden keys to achieving success, spreading happiness, and sustaining positive change,he shares a simple example that many organizations have now adopted called the 10:5 Way.
