Located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario (100 km west of Toronto), the City of Guelph offers the perfect setting to complement your graduate studies. The city is characterized by many 19th-century limestone buildings including City Hall and the dramatic Church of Our Lady which dominates the city skyline. With just over 118,000 people, Guelph is a vibrant community and home to a lively downtown core, a thriving cultural community, diverse recreational activities, numerous shopping facilities and a variety of special events.

Recreational opportunites are everywhere. Cycling trails challenge off-roaders, and hiking trails link Guelph to Ontario's famour Bruce Trail. Our Ontario Hockey Leagure (OHL) team, the Guelph Storm, plays in the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Complex. Guelph's River Run Centre offers concerts for fans of rock, pop, folk, classical and jass music, plus live theatre and lectures. With so many attractions you'll have no problem finding the perfect escape from the lab or library.


Definition of Guelph

The city was named in 1827 to honour King George IV, whose family name was Gwelf. The spelling has been altered over time, but it is pronounced just as it was 170 years ago and rhymes with 'self'.

Office of Intercultural Affairs

TheOffice of Intercultural Affairs (OIA) serves the campus community by fostering an environment of cultural competency and diversity. The OIA support the growth, development and learning needs of undergraduate and graduate International students. Common issues include adaptation challenges, housing needs, academic concerns, financial difficulties and challenges associated with faculty-student relations (particularly for graduate students). Educational events and workshops are provided as a means to support international students in their transition to university life and study and to introduce international students to Canadian culture.
