Philosophy

The Philosophy Department at Guelph offers the opportunity to study topics and thinkers in the Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern Periods. These were formative periods in the development of Western thought and the philosophers we study posed fundamental questions that still drive philosophical inquiry.

The one-year MA option offers you the opportunity to hone your philosophical skills through graduate coursework, culiminating in an 8000-word research paper. Whether you want to continue in non-academic pursuits or go on to a PhD, this degree provides intensive philosophical training that will serve you in whatever you choose to do next.

Our Philosophy program offers three program options for a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy:

The MA can be pursued as preparation for a PhD, but need not be: Graduates from our MA program have entered high-quality PhD programs as well as pursuing careers in non-academic fields; see our MA outcomes page.
