Feminist Philosophy at Guelph

The Philosophy Department at Guelph is very proud of its research strength in Feminist Philosophy!

We welcome you to have a look at our research and teaching in feminist philosophy and to consider coming to Guelph to work with us in this important and exciting field.

Feminist philosophy is an approach to philosophical questions motivated by a basic concern for the interests, perspectives, and experiences of marginal and oppressed groups. Feminist philosophers work in all of the traditional fields of philosophy, working both to highlight the biases inherent in philosophical discourse and to bring underrepresented voices and perspectives from the margins into the mainstream discourse.

The Philosophy Department at Guelph has seven philosophers who work directly in the field of feminist philosophy, with research and and teaching in ethics, social and political philosophy, epistemology, philosophy of science, and the history of philosophy. This is a markedly higher concentration of faculty in feminist philosophy than most North American philosophy departments.
