GTA hiring process (draft)

Process for making GTA offers

This process was developed in consultation with the office of Faculty and Staff Relations in Winter 2015.

Terminology

“program time” = 6 semesters for (full time) MA students and 12 semesters for (full time) PhD students. (This is defined in the Graduate Calendar.)

The process

There are three "levels" of consideration.

Use of mailboxes

Decided at department meeting of November 7, 2014.

Departmental mailboxes are not to be used for undergraduates to drop off assignments.  This is unworkable and imposes an unreasonable burden on staff who inevitably have to direct the undergraduates to the small room containing the mailboxes, then to the mailboxes, then (in some cases) to the particular slot they are to use.

Undergraduates are to hand in assignments either in class or some other way directed by the instructor.

Graduate Colloquium Series

The Philosophy Graduate Colloquium Series is an annual, informal venue for graduate students at both the MA and PhD level to present work to their peers. Events have been held since 2009 in both Guelph and Toronto. The event is sponsored by the Department of Philosophy.

With any questions, please contact the current organizer, Daniel Griffin, at griffind@uoguelph.ca .

The T&P Policy Document

The Department's T&P policy document contains the answers to many questions---please have a look at it.

Important: unless you're going for Promotion or Tenure, you need only concern yourself with items in the "window":  September 1, 2016 to August 31, 2018.  (All you'll submit is the Biennial Report, not the CV.)

Standard statements (for Winter 2017)

The following statements are incorporated into all Course Outlines for Winter 2017 courses in the Department of Philosophy

EMAIL COMMUNICATION

As per university regulations, all students are required to check their uoguelph.ca email account regularly: email is the official route of communication between the University and its students.
