Trent Tucker honoured with national award

Congratulations to Trent Tucker (HTM Assistant Professor), recipient of the 2013 Desire2Learn Innovation Award in teaching and learning!!  He is among only five Canadian academics to be honoured with the award and recognized for making innovations in university education accessible to all of his students.

The annual award will be presented on June 21st in Sydney, N.S. by Desire2Learn and the Society for Teaching and learning in Higher Education.

TIPPED OUT? – A Forum on Gratuities

Is it time to re-think tipping? 

GUELPH, Ont.  March 19, 2013 - The School of Hospitality & Tourism Management, University of Guelph;  and George Brown College Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts are thrilled to announce Tipped Out, a forum on handling tips in restaurants.  The forum will be held on Monday, April 29th, 2 – 4 p.m. at George Brown College, St. James Campus, Room 128, 200 King Street East, Toronto.  There is no charge to attend.

Professor Introduces New Column in Magazine

On April 18th, a group of students along with Professor Taillon attended the HFTP Regional Conference at the Marriott on Yonge Street in Toronto. The all-day event featured speakers and hotel industry professionals from all over Eastern Canada: from Toronto and Ottawa to Montreal and Halifax. Session topics included best practices in cash handling procedures, leadership, team-building, and management strategies for the hotel industry's multi-generational workforce.

HFTP Sending Two HTM Students to 2014 HITEC Conference

The professional association HFTP has agreed to cover the costs of sending two students annually to their HITEC conference. The students will work the event, which is one of the world’s largest boasting an attendance of approximately 7,500 industry professionals. The students will also make a presentation at iHITA, which is the academic conference associated with HITEC. This is an amazing opportunity and resume-booster! The University of Guelph is fortunate to be one of twenty Universities worldwide HFTP is offering this to.
