The OAC Dean’s Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Renée Bergeron in the position of Assistant Dean – Academic.

In this eight-month role, Bergeron will support the portfolio of the Associate Dean – Academic. This portfolio includes program curriculum, online program development, student academic counselling, and support of instructors on academic issues, as well as representing OAC on various academic committees.

Bergeron’s role will have emphasis on strengthening the various associate diploma programs offered by the college, including increasing their accessibility and access.

“Renée has a strong track record of administration and leadership, and a great understanding of our associate diploma curriculum,” says Rene Van Acker, Dean of the college. “Her expertise will be key in guaranteeing our competitiveness in the agri-food diploma space.”

Bergeron will report to Prof. Jonathan Schmidt, Associate Dean – Academic, who will complete his second term in the role in September 2020.

“Renée’s experience will be vital in ensuring continued service and program excellence, as we approach a time of transition in OAC’s academic portfolio,” adds Van Acker.

“I have always been passionate about education,” shares Bergeron, “and I am glad to help advance diploma programs at the University of Guelph.”

Bergeron is a professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences and is located at the Guelph campus. She was director of Campus d’Alfred from 2007-2015, and also managed the Kemptville Campus in an interim capacity from May 2009 – August 2010. She is an animal behaviour and welfare researcher, specializing in swine and dairy cows and speaks French fluently.
