Farmland, rental survey based on decade of research
The Ontario Farmland Value and Rental Value Survey was launched in 2016 to address the lack of publicly available county-level data on farmland values and rental rates across Ontario. The initiative is a collaboration between the University of Guelph, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness, and provincial farm organizations.
“Ten years ago, when we started the survey, we were baffled that there was no data available on an annual basis at the county level,” said Brady Deaton Jr., a professor in the university’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (FARE) and lead researcher on the project.
In response, FARE, OMAFA, and the OFA partnered to collect consistent, regionally specific data on farmland rental rates, farmland values, and related market expectations.
