Our Sympathies: Lillian Iris Chanasyk

Posted on Wednesday, June 29th, 2022

Lillian Iris Chanasyk passed away on May 12, 2022 just shy of her 93 birthday. She is the wife of Victor Chanasyk who was the Founding Director of the first School of Landscape of Architecture in Canada at the University of Guelph (now the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development). She self identified as a “homemaker” which is an old fashioned term, but she felt her role was to love and support her husband and his career. She did that very well. She was also an independent woman in her own right. Intelligent, thoughtful, and caring. She will be missed by many students and colleagues who knew her through the School and many trips out to Victor’s farm where they learned about landscapes and ecology and who enjoyed her wonderful baked beans cooked over an open fire. A life well lived indeed.
