My name is Siobhan Grant and I am a Masters’ of European Studies candidate with an anticipated graduation year 2024. My academic journey began with an Honours undergraduate degree in Urban Studies at York University. This allowed me to develop essential research and analytical skills in urban discourse. I furthered my academic journey with Seneca College’s International Business Management Program. I currently work with the Canadian Feminist Disability Coalition project, a government-funded project where I develop capacity/skill-building workshops, resources and forums for women and girls with disabilities in Canada. This experience has broadened my commitment to exploring disability rights and accessibility and advocating for inclusive practices in diverse contexts. For my Major Research Paper, I aim to examine how historical European buildings adapt to modern times, especially regarding accessibility and inclusion. Making urban spaces accessible for people with disabilities helps protect their rights and dignity. It ensures they can fully take part in public spaces, feeling valued in society. Policy-wise, this presents opportunities to identify barriers and opportunities, develop best practices, and create innovative solutions that can be applied in real-world urban planning and tourism development. As I aspire to pursue a career in the public sector, I aim to ensure everyone, including those with disabilities, can fully participate in public spaces and events, respecting their rights and dignity.
