OAC faculty named fellow of Canadian Agricultural Economics Society

Dr. Brady Deaton, professor and McCain Family Chair in Food Security, was awarded the distinction of Fellow of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES-SCAÉ). The distinction was announced at CAES-SCAÉ’s Annual Meeting in Whistler, BC on Tuesday.

Deaton’s research focuses on food security and land tenure. He previously served as editor of the Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics, and President of the Institutional and Behavioural Economics Section of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association. He also received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Guelph’s Central Student Association and the Distinguished Extension Award from Ontario’s Agricultural College. He also served as President of CAES-SCAÉ from 2018 to 2019. 

In 2021, CAES-SCAÉ honoured Deaton and his co-authors with an Outstanding Journal Article Award for their research on food insecurity on First Nations.

CAES-SCAÉ is an association of individuals with a professional interest in topics related to the economics of agriculture, food, natural resources, and the environment. Their mission is to expand knowledge, networking, outreach and learning of the related sectors. CAES-SCAÉ Fellows create ongoing dialogue and a forum for perspectives on Canadian agricultural issues with members of the profession as well as graduate students.

Deaton is the 3rd U of G and OAC faculty member to be named a Fellow of CAES-SCAÉ.
