Celebrating Earth Day
Earth Day, April 22, is an annual worldwide event to celebrate our planet and support environmental protection. Our graduate students work hard each day to push boundaries and conduct important research to address critical environmental issues in a sustainable way.

How are you celebrating Earth Day?
"This year, I'm looking forward to getting outside on Earth Day, going for a hike at a local conservation area, and appreciating nature with family and friends. I've also been inspired lately to seriously look at my own plastic use and make some changes in my life that can limit the amount of plastics I use - and throw away - on a daily basis, and what better time to make this change than Earth Day! I encourage everyone to do something positive for the Earth this April 22nd!" Alexandra Stinson

What does Earth Day mean to you?
“To me, Earth Day symbolizes a desirable and achievable global human behaviour that helps to protect the health of our planet into the future. By participating in Earth Day, you are making those around you aware about the importance of conservation for shaping sustainable communities. To celebrate this year, I’ll be spending time at the lake hiking with my family and sharing nature photos online to promote conservation.” -Cameron Curran

Why is Earth Day important?
"Earth day is important because it encourages all of us to support our planet by volunteering, using less plastic, or by planting flowers for pollinators. It also serves as a reminder of how important it is to take care of our planet for future generations. Fun fact: my birthday is on earth day, so every year I try to find ways to give back to the planet. This year, I challenge you to find a way to make a difference - big or small! " -Hayley Tompkins
