Food Science professor receives international Willmar Schwabe Award
Congratulations to Dr. Paul Spagnuolo, professor in OAC's Department of Food Science, on receiving the prestigious 2026 Willmar Schwabe Award by the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Resesarch. The award is in recognition of his outstanding contributions to nutraceutical research.
Spagnuolo leads a research program focused on discovering and developing food-derived bioactive molecules that can help prevent and treat metabolic diseases. His team has identified 10 novel nutraceuticals, filed four patents, published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and completed two clinical trials, helping advance the science of food and human health.
An internationally recognized leader in the field, Spagnuolo's research continues to strengthen the University of Guelph's reputation for excellence in food science and innovation.
