Fourth-year animal biology student Amber Zupan has a passion for working with livestock. She’s an animal enthusiast that can be seen around campus participating in many of the great activities that the University of Guelph (U of G) has to offer. U of G Study Pinpoints Reasons for Egg Farm Feather Pecking

As Canadian egg farmers transition their flocks from conventional cages to more spacious “furnished” cages, University of Guelph researchers have conducted a first-ever study on factors contributing to feather pecking in this new housing system and ways to prevent it.

The study revealed that 22 per cent of the birds  in the new cages exhibited moderate or severe feather damage that was likely due to feather pecking.

Alumnus brings together a community to restore agricultural history

Logically, we know stepping back in time isn’t possible. But at the O’Hara Mill Homestead in Madoc, Ontario, it seems like it just might be.

When walking through the rural setting of the homestead visitors can see a fully restored sawmill with a dam and covered bridge, a log house, school, carpenter and blacksmith shops, and much more. Visitors step back into the 1800’s and experience agriculture as it was.

Meet Matthew, Honours Agriculture Student

Matthew is a fourth-year student in the Honours Agriculture major of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree program. Passionate about experiencing everything the University of Guelph (U of G) has to offer, he has taken advantage of opportunities to study in Costa Rica and Wales. With interests in both the business and science sides of agriculture, he’s paving his own path in the industry.

New Liaison Officer

The OAC Dean's Office is pleased to announce Christine Wilkinson as the new Liaison Officer. She begins in the role on July 2, 2019.

“We’re really thrilled to welcome Christine to the team and back to campus,” says Carleigh Johnston, OAC Liaison Manager. “Her unique skillset in communications, youth education and engagement, and agriculture makes her a perfect fit for our growing program.”

Students Improving Life: Inventors of Wapples

Food science students, Karine Desrochers, Ellery Geddes and Loritta Lin alongside business student Peter Cline, were grouped together in their fourth-year capstone course, Food Product Development, where they were tasked to utilize pomace, an apple by-product, to create a consumer ready product.

Meet Pamela, BBRM Equine Student

Pamela is a student in Bachelor of Bio-Resource Management (BBRM) – Equine Management program. She is preparing to spend her third-year at the Royal Agricultural University in England on exchange. After school, Pamela hopes to travel the world exploring all aspects of the equine industry as she looks to find her place.
