New SES Administrative Officer

The School of Environmental Sciences (SES) is pleased to welcome Ian Turner as the new Administrative Officer for the school. Ian begins in the role on January 23, 2019.

As Administrative Officer, Ian will manage day-to-day operations of the school. He will develop strategies and systems to achieve the financial goals of the unit, including the Arboretum. He is also responsible for human resource activities, including ensuring adherence to employee agreements and establishing unit policies.

New ecohydrology researcher

The School of Environmental Sciences (SES) is pleased to welcome Prof. Geneviève Ali as an associate professor in ecohydrology. Ali began in her role on January 15.

In this position, Ali will work on research related to watershed processes, nutrient transport, surface water chemistry, water quality, and their interrelationship with ecological systems.

Improving Food Safety Goal of $1-Million Gift

With food recalls from romaine lettuce to cauliflower generating perennial headlines, a new $1-million gift from two University of Guelph grads will establish a professorship intended to improve food safety in Canada and abroad. Prof. Lawrence Goodridge, a three-time U of G grad, will join his alma mater this month from a faculty position at McGill University to take up the new Leung Family Professorship in Food Safety based in the Department of Food Science.

Paul Klosler rejoins OAC as Senior Development Manager

Alumni Affairs and Development and the OAC Dean’s Office are pleased to announce Paul Klosler has been appointed as Senior Development Manager for OAC. Paul began in the role on January 7, 2019.

In this role, he will take on major gift fundraising responsibilities, working with both existing and prospective donors.

Food science welcomes new food quality prof

The Department of Food Science is pleased to welcome Dr. Maria G. Corradini as an Arrell Food Chair in Food Quality, starting December 1, 2018. Corradini joins the Department of Food Science from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst where she was an assistant professor.

New Academic Programs Manager

The OAC Dean's Office is pleased to announce Rebecca Hodges as the new Academic Programs Manager for the College. Rebecca will begin in the role on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
 

New Development Manager

Alumni Affairs and Development and the OAC Dean’s Office  is  pleased to announce Shannon Fawns as the new development manager for the College. Shannon began in the role on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Event recap: Celebrating 50 years of the Department of Food Science

On Saturday, September 29th, 145 people gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Guelph’s Department of Food Science.

Alumni, faculty, staff and friends came together to celebrate the milestone, but the history of the department dates back even farther to 1885, which was when the department’s predecessor, the Department of Dairying, was established.

68 donors raise $150,000 in honour of prof

68 donors stepped forward over the last year to rapidly raise $150,000 in honour of a colleague, mentor and friend.

The new Kees de Lange Scholarship in Swine Nutrition honours the beloved professor, Kees de Lange, who passed away on August 1, 2016. The graduate scholarship will be presented annually to a student focused on swine nutrition.

“It is a fitting tribute to Kees,” says Prof. Jim Squires, chair of the Department of Animal Biosciences. “Mentoring the next generation of swine researchers was an important focus for Kees.”
