This workshop introduces leaders to neuro-inclusion. Leaders will learn how to integrate neuro-inclusive practices into their continual improvement strategies, so that neurodivergent individuals (including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other cognitive differences) can participate on equal footing with their neurotypical peers. We will use the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) approach to take stock of barriers when it comes to neurodiversity in your teams, learn about short-term solutions, and dive deeper into legal accommodations.
Leaders will explore why fostering neuro-inclusion benefits everyone, including all of U of G departments and employees, not just neurodivergent team members.
Strategies such as flexible pacing, plain language communication, and reduced sensory overload promote employee engagement and well-being. By the end of this section, leaders will be able to:
- Explain what neurodivergence is and recognize that everyone's abilities and needs change over time
- Apply short-term solutions that make the workplace more neuro-inclusive
- Accommodate neurodivergent employees and know when/how to offer support without singling anyone out
