Are you able to bring up problems and tough issues in your team? Is it difficult to ask your team members for help or bring forward a new idea? Is it safe to take a risk?
These are a few questions that Harvard Professor Amy Edmondson suggests reflecting on to assess your team’s psychological safety. Dr. Edmondson describes psychological safety as being able to show and express your thoughts without fear of negative consequences. Psychological safety isn't about being nice. It’s about giving candid feedback, openly admitting mistakes, and learning from each other. Several studies on psychological safety point to numerous benefits, including increased creativity, confidence, trust, and productivity.
In this session, participants will:
- Identify what creating psychological safety means
- Understand the benefits of building psychological safety
- Engage with the 3 practices that foster the building of psychological safety
- Apply the language and behaviours of psychological safety to your work
