Effective Joint Health and Safety Committees

All interested staff are welcome to attend, especially those currently involved as members of Joint Health and Safety Committees or Health & Safety Representatives.

Are you interested in health and safety at work and wondering how to become involved? Are you part of a Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) and unsure what membership entails? Does your local JHSC need a review of best practices? This session reviews the functions and powers of Joint Health and Safety Committees under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Discussions will include:

When JHSCs or worker health and safety representatives are required; committee membership composition, and activities of effective JHSCs including meetings, workplace inspections, recommendations, attendance at hygiene testing, critical injury investigation, and more. Information about completing Certification training will be provided.

Discussion will provide insights into the structure of JHSCs at the University of Guelph and locations of H&S Reps at U of G research stations.
