Field Work Safety and Working Outdoors

This course is geared towards those performing research related field work tasks, those working with technical staff at research stations, Guelph Turf Grass, or on the Guelph campus.  

This in-person workshop covers a general introduction to safety topics, including:
information about the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, the University Safety Policies, including Violence and Harassment Prevention, and duties and responsibilities assigned under the Act, and injury and incident reporting at the U of G.

Specific contents for the field work portion of the program includes

  • the specific machinery hazards encountered at various research station locations, i.e. planters, micro-harvesters, seed cleaners and separators
  • working in heat, sun safety, and biting insects 
  • back care and proper lifting techniques

Sessions are scheduled annually at Simcoe and Bradford Research Stations, and on Ridgetown and Guelph Campuses.
