Tractor and Ride Mower Safety

Tractors and farm equipment are used to plant, harvest and move a variety of commodities and present hazards for the operators, their peers and by-standers in each scenario. Ride mowers equally present hazards for operators and by-standers, especially in relation to the environment and terrain.

This course is geared towards those operating tractors or ride mowers at University research stations, or on the Ridgetown or Guelph campuses.  

Topics to be covered include: 

  • The hazards and controls related to farm, field and mowing equipment
  • Information available in equipment manuals,
  • Training and authorization of operators including vehicle circle checks, inspections of shields and guards, lock out, Rollover protection structures
  • Safe hitching, and towing
  • Work on the roads and
  • accident reporting. 

General safety topics such as the use of PPE - respiratory, hearing, eye protection, foot protection, high visibility clothing and climatic work hazards will also be discussed.
