NEW Days (Virtual) - February 2026

NEW Days is the kick-off to the NEW @ the U program at the University of Guelph. One day at the beginning of each month of the year (excluding January, April, July, August, and December) has been dedicated to welcoming and connecting new employees to the University environment and giving them a positive start.

Building Resilience: Understanding Challenges, Learning Strategies, and Accepting Change

Research shows that individuals can improve how well they adapt to challenges and adversity. This session will help break negative thought patterns and offer healthier ways of thinking and behaving. Participants will be introduced to a variety of effective, practical tools to improve physical health, respect mental/emotional health, and cultivate a strong social support network. Developed by the Mental Health Commission Canada, the two-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond supportively.

safeTALK Suicide Prevention Training - January 2026

Designed by Living Works, safeTALK is a 3.5-hour alertness training and certification that prepares anyone, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. This training includes understanding of the importance of suicide alertness, learning to identify ways people invite help, and how to connect those who need help with resources when they are at risk.

Trauma-informed Care for Staff and Faculty

This two-hour, in-person training is designed to help all staff and faculty increase their knowledge and awareness about trauma and its impacts.  The training provides strategies for implementing the Six Principles of Trauma-Informed Care, including self-regulation and self-care practices, to improve competency in working with and supporting students who have experienced trauma. This training consists of four modules:

When Negativity Strikes: Communicating Despite Negative Behaviour

Negative behaviour can dampen any conversation and can spin a web of negativity around any activity. This session will review some helpful strategies to assist with recognizing some common negative behaviours and how to effectively communicate when negativity is present. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Developed by Living Works, ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop that teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety.

These “hiding strategies” and patterns of seeking validation can quietly limit your leadership, confidence, and impact. This workshop will build on the Women at Work and Wellness lunch series and provide a strong foundation for women who want to move beyond the patterns that keep them from fully stepping into their potential.
