NEW Days is the kick-off to the NEW @ the U program at the University of Guelph. One day at the beginning of each month of the year (excluding January, April, July, August, and December) has been dedicated to welcoming and connecting new employees to the University environment and giving them a positive start.
Connect, Adapt and Align are three practices that are the foundation of U of G’s performance success framework, GOAL 2.0. The skills, behaviours and attitudes that form the practices are also an integral part of effective leadership the promotes engagement and retention. All people managers are strongly encouraged to attend this session to deepen their understanding of the core practices and what is expected of them as U of G people leaders.
In both our personal and professional lives, we regularly negotiate our needs with those of others. Choices often need to be made when competing values, goals and priorities exist. When appropriate boundaries are set using assertive communication techniques, cooperative relationships can be formed and maintained. This session will explore the benefits of setting and maintaining healthy boundaries and outline practical strategies for doing so with confidence, empathy and self-compassion.

Essential to effective leadership is understanding that conflict is a natural part of working with others; different people have different ideas, values, beliefs and viewpoints. All leaders will inevitably need to deal with a conflict between two or more people. Avoidance or ineffective conflict management can lead to low morale and energy and can potentially impact the health of employees and the organization.
