CUPE 1334 Negotiation Update

The University of Guelph and CUPE Local 1334, the union representing trades, maintenance and service workers are in conciliation meetings on Thursday, February 16 and Friday, February 17. The University is looking to achieve an agreement that is fair and recognizes the fiscal and operational realities of the University.  Recognizing the importance and challenging issues to be addressed, the University engaged the Union in discussions a year in advance of collective bargaining in order to thoughtfully explore options around staffing and levels of service.

CUPE 1334 Negotiation Update

The University and The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1334, representing custodial, trades and maintenance employees have met over the course of four bargaining dates in an effort to reach a renewal agreement which expired April 30, 2016.  The University was advised by the Union of its decision to make an application to the Ministry of Labour for an appointment of a provincially appointed Conciliation Officer.  

USW 4120 Collective Agreement Ratification

Members of USW Local 4120, which represents about 800 administrative, clerical and technical employees, and the University of Guelph have ratified the renewal Collective Agreement that was tentatively agreed to on September 13, 2014.

University, USW Local 4120 Reach Tentative Agreement

Working together with the assistance of a provincially appointed mediator, the University of Guelph and United Steelworkers (USW) Local 4120 reached a tentative agreement a few moments ago, which now requires ratification by both parties.

The University and USW 4120, the union that represents approximately 900 University administrative and technical staff, have been negotiating a new agreement since the spring.

Details of the agreement remain confidential pending ratification by the union and the Board of Governors.

Medical Information for Short Term Absences

The University and the USW want to ensure that members of the bargaining unit understand what medical information is required in instances of short term absences for medical reasons that fall under Article 16.04 of the collective agreement.

The following medical information is to be provided directly to Occupational Health and Wellness by way of a signed medical certificate completed by the employee’s treating regulated health professional:

1.  The general nature of the illness or injury;

CUPE 1334, University Ratify Agreement

Members of CUPE Local 1334, which represents about 250 trades, maintenance and service worker employees, and the University of Guelph have ratified the agreement that was reached earlier this month.

In a joint message issued Feb. 7 about the agreement, Martha Harley, assistant vice-president (human resources), and Janice Folk Dawson, president of CUPE Local 1334, said:
