On November 21, 2018, Bill 47, the Making Ontario Open For Business Act, 2018 received royal assent, repealing many of the provisions of the previous government’s Fair Workplaces and Better Jobs Act. In response to changes to the Employment Standards Act arising from Bill 47, and the impact of these changes on polices and practices, the University has consolidated and amended applicable Human Resources Polices including:

Due to the upcoming holidays payroll cutoff dates have been revised for the December 27, 2018 and January 10, 2019 pays.

Campus flags will be lowered to half-mast from Friday, November 9 through Sunday, November 11 in observance of Remembrance Day. A wreath will be placed at the flags by the University Centre.
A ceremony will be held in Branion Plaza at 11:00 a.m. on November 11.
Members of the University of Guelph Food Service Employees Association (UGFSEA) Units 1 and 2, the Associations that represent approximately 120 regular and limited full-time staff (Unit 1), as well as 274 part-time staff (Unit 2), at the University of Guelph have ratified the renewal Collective Agreements that expired on April 30 and July 31, 2018 respectively.

On October 17, 2018 cannabis consumption will be legalized in Canada. The University of Guelph continues to be committed to the health and safety of all of its employees and in keeping with the new regulatory landscape has updated its Human Resource Policy 511- Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages, Illicit Drugs or Recreational Cannabis at Work.
